My name is Saleeban Abdi, I am very pleased and honoured to be the chair of the 36th board of Urios. I am currently studying Tax law at the Erasmus university in Rotterdam. Even though I am not studying at the University of Utrecht, I am very much connected to the association. I have been a member for three years and I have participated in the External affairs committee and the Model United Nations committee. I have noted that I will be the 36th chair of the study association, this further highlights to me the great responsibility I have taken on. For those who know me well, you will know that I will always do the very best I can for Urios and I will hopefully continue the great work done by the people before me. I will always strive to continue the development of the association, through leadership, co-operation with other associations and hard work. Our key goal is broadening the views of Urios. We are not only a study association for international and European law, but we are also  very much affiliated with international relations. We also aim to work with other study associations and companies within Europe. If you have any questions or remarks, feel free to contact me at board@urios.org. I hope to meet and welcome all of you at one of our future activities or/and events.

Hello! My name is Alina Chakh and I am proud to be the Secretary of the 36th board of Urios! I am 21 years old and I hope to obtain my Bachelor of Laws this year! International Law and International Relations has always affected me in a lot of ways. While doing a minor in International Relations last year, I realised that I wanted to look for a way to combine my interest in law and my interest in the international field. That is why I decided to join Urios and I learned a lot while being a member of this association! I started my Urios journey as a committee member of both the MUN society and Magazine Committee. Urios gives you the opportunity to meet people from all over the world, since it is the only Law association where English is the main language. All these people have different views on life, which encourages you to think out of the box. This is a very valuable asset in my opinion. I am currently active in the Magazine Committee and I am the chair of the URUMUN board. I hope that my board year is going to be a great year with my fellow board members and of course all the Urios members! As your Secretary, I am always at your service about anything that concers your membership at our association. We will do our utmost to make the best of the academic year 2016 -2017! If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me at board@urios.org!

img_1617My name is Daphne Salvino and I am excited to fulfil the role of treasurer this year! I am 23 years old and just started the master of Public International Law. After my master, I want to pursue a career in the field of international law, since this aspect of law highly interests me. This is also one of the reasons why I enjoy being in the board of Urios this year. I am eager to be more practically involved in the field of international law, and to get to know more people which share the same interests in this field as I do. Prior to this year I have obtained a bachelor in Economics and a master of Law and Economics. Hence, regarding my interests in economics next to law, the position of treasurer fits me perfectly! As the treasurer of Urios this year I will check the finances of Urios and ensure, in cooperation with my fellow board members, that Urios will remain financially healthy. Next to this I will organize a Short Exchange for first-year students together with my committee. I am very enthusiastic to work together with my fellow board members, and look forward to all the great activities we will be organizing this year.

Hello! My name is Pieter-Bas van Suijlichem and this year I have the pleasure to take up the tasks of the Activities Commissioner. I am 21 years old, originally from Hilversum and in my spare time I like to read, play games and watch series (don’t we all). Currently I am in my fourth and final year of the Double Degree Law Program at University College Utrecht, which allows me to combine a Liberal Arts and Sciences degree with a degree in Dutch Law. During my studies at this college, my fascination with and passion for law in general have increased tremendously as I received more insight in how the discipline can be identified in every aspect of society. My heart lies with the intersection between law and politics in particular and I knew Urios offers many great possibilities in this regard, so here I am! This curly head is thrilled to work together with his terrific committee to bring you, our members, all kinds of formal and informal activities, the small and big trip naturally being the icing on the cake, and he is delighted to do so while partaking in this group of creative, dedicated and like-minded peers. I am looking forward to meeting and welcoming you at our events and activities, if you have any great ideas or questions in general do not hesitate to contact me at activities.urios@gmail.com.

img_1628My name is Roos Bos and I feel honoured to be the commissioner of external affairs of the 36th board of Urios! I am 22 years old and in my final year of the bachelor of laws. Besides my interests in the legal field, I am also passionate about international relations and conflict studies. After I went on exchange to South Africa I decided to focus my studies on international law and became an Urios member. I have been a part of the magazine committee and the URUMUN board, by taking seat in these committees I enabled myself to do the things I find rewarding in life. Meeting people from all over the world with similar interest as myself is what I value the most in being a part of Urios.  As the commissioner of external affairs I hope to acquaint the Urios members with firms, institutions and NGO’s, which work in the field of international law in order to give students a complete picture of the their future labour market. Furthermore I hope to enhance willingness of professional organisations to work with Urios and generate long-lasting and fruitful partnerships. If you have any questions or ideas concerning the association or external affairs feel free to contact me at board@urios.org or come talk to me at one of our activities or member drinks!

img_1608Hi! My name is Daan and I am delighted to be the Model United Nations Commissioner of Urios! I am 20 years old and studying interdisciplinary social sciences at Utrecht University. Now I hear you wonder: ‘How has he become an Urios board member?’ Well, I’m very interested in international relations. That’s why I did a minor in international relations and via this minor I was asked by Alina, our current Secretary, to participate in Paris International Model United Nations (PIMUN). PIMUN was a great experience, so I really wanted to do more MUNs. In a MUN you can improve your public speaking skills, get to know the world of diplomacy and more. Also, don’t forget the social part! It’s really fun to get to know people from all over the world and to have a drink with them in the wonderful evenings. It is my job to organize three trips to MUNs abroad and to provide trainings where we’ll practice on debating and explain the rules of procedures for example. Personally I like football, mountain biking, some good music and hanging out with friends. This year is going to be a fantastic year! I am very motivated, so I am going to make the best out of it!

My name is Maurits de Munck and I am the Symposium Commissioner of the 36th board! I am 21 years old and currently enrolled in the Double Law program between UCU and UU. Studying at University College Utrecht for three years enabled me to explore a plurality of academic disciplines. Throughout my studies in Liberal Arts and Sciences, I became extremely interested in international and European Law. My current study program allows me to combine a Bachelor’s in Liberal Arts and Sciences with a Bachelor’s in Law, both of which I will have completed by next summer. Although I am enjoying my courses on Dutch Law very much, I felt an irresistible urge to continue my interaction with International and European Law. Therefore, I am honoured to work as the Symposium Commissioner during this academic year. Not only will my extracurricular work allow me to interact with the aforementioned disciplines, but I will also collaborate with many interesting external parties, meet students from all different backgrounds, and obtain valuable experiences and skills. As Symposium Commissioner I have – together with my committee – the honourable task to organise all symposia and lectures Urios offers. After the amazing events organised by my predecessors, it is my aim for this year to organise more lectures with external parties, thereby creating a larger platform of students potentially interested in International and European Law. In addition, I would like to organise more lectures on current issues and invite more speakers directly involved with such issues. Finally, I aim to involve both Urios members and UU students in choosing the topics for the lectures. I hope my enthusiasm for international and European law will be reflected in the events and that everyone will enjoy a year with great debates and esteemed speakers. I am really looking forward to meeting and working together with everyone and organising many interesting events! Feel free to e-mail me at symposium.urios@gmail.com if you have questions about the lectures or a general question/remark!
