Board

Urios proudly presents the 37th board for academic year 2017-2018:

My name is Thomas de la Combé and it is my honor to be the 37th chair of Urios. I am 21 years old and I hope to obtain my Bachelor of Laws this year. Last year I have finished my Minors in Criminology which has awakened an interest in International Criminal Law within me. Therefore, when I was asked to become the Chair of Urios, I didn’t have to think twice! Yet, I am very aware of the responsibility and the possibilities I have taken on with this position. Since I have done multiple committees in the past (with different functions), isn’t it very hard for me to put myself in the position of another. This sense of teamworking, together with my skills in leadership, will help me and my board to continue the course of Urios this year. We, as the 37th board, have 5 strategic values which emphasizes our ideology and policy. These values are:

– Professionality – Authenticity – Solidarity – Unity – Growth –

Finally, I have created the My Urios platform on the Urios website. All members can now create a My-Urios account and register for events! If you want to know more about me, my board, ‘My-Urios’ or Urios in general please feel free to contact me at board@urios.org or come to our Office Hours at Mondays – Wednesdays from 13:00 till 15:00 in Room M1.07 Janskerkhof 2-3a! I hope to see you at one of our future events!

Hi everyone! My name is Maxine Lemstra and I have the honour of being the secretary of 37th board of Urios in the coming year and am very much looking forward to it. I’m currently in my fourth year of my Bachelor of Laws. I have just returned from an exchange semester at the University of Sydney and plan to follow a Competition Law master next year. My main goals are to ensure that Urios functions as well-oiled machine, requiring efficiency and coordination between my fellow board members, the committees, as well as external parties. Furthermore, I intend to keep the members database up to date and be responsive and helpful towards members through the newsletters, emails and Facebook interaction. Finally, I intend to make the Curious Blog a happening concept within Urios, ensuring that there are frequent and diverse blog posts which are interesting and entertaining to read and write.

I hope to see and meet all of you at the member drinks, and look forward to working together to make the best of the coming year! If you ever have any questions or remarks, please don’t hesitate to contact me at board@urios.org or attend the office walk-in hours from 13.00-15.00 on Monday to Wednesday (Janskerkhof 3, room M1.07).

Hello my name is Erik Jan Kamphof and  I will be the treasurer of Urios this year. I’m 21 years old, and  currently in my third year of the bacholer of Law at the University Utrecht. My academic interests mostly lie in in International Law and Finance, which coincidentally makes me a good fit for this function as well! My task this year will be to keep Urios financially healthy and make sure the bookkeeping is as transparent as possible for the members of the association. Furthermore, I will be organising the short exchange trip together with my committee.

I am very much looking forward to this year and have full confidence that my fellow board members and I will be able to develop Urios further and, by doing so, continue the path that our predecessors have started.

My name is Nicky Hugens and this year I have the honour and pleasure to be the Activities Commissioner of the 37th board of Urios. I graduated for my Bachelor of Law at Utrecht University after studying in Australia last semester. Currently, I am taking a year to orient on Master’s programmes but moreover, I will enhance all my effort in order to fulfil the great responsibility I have taken on. (Especially) during my studies at Monash University in Australia, my affinity with the environment and international law has increased tremendously. Although I have always despised environmental topics, I am now determined to move into the ‘environmental space’ due to receiving more insight in how whole of humanity handles crucial issues, realizing the importance of this and it being an interconnection. I will be taking that and my experience from working abroad on board when I, together with the Activities Committee, offer you, our (non-)members, interesting formal and social events, among whom the Big and (this year two!) Small Trips. I am looking forward to meeting and welcoming you at our events. Please always feel free to contact me at board@urios.org.

My name is Hester Kok and I feel really blessed to be the Commissioner of External Affairs of the 37th board of Urios. I recently graduated for my Bachelor of Laws at Utrecht University. During my Erasmus in Helsinki I became more interested in international and European Law, especially in European Competition Law. I aim having an international career in London therefore I have just started my masters European Union Law in Amsterdam. (Perhaps I will strive to become a Legal Brexit expert..). As Commissioner of External Affairs it is of great importance to keep contact and cooperations with the external relations fruitful.

One of my challenges this year is to keep Urios financially running by means of networking and expanding the connections and partnerships with international law firms and organizations. Furthermore, another goal I have set is to continue the partnerships which already have been made and to maintain these long-lasting contacts. In my point of view, I think this is really meaningful for the stability and professionality of the association. I would like to bring Urios to a higher level and I hope to enhance and attract collaborations and the willingness of different law firms, organisations and NGO’s to work together with Urios. This is necessary for the overall growth and expansion of Urios.

Moreover, as a distinctive association, since we only focus on international and European law, I would like to aspire the authenticity of Urios. Also to give students the opportunity to discover the field of international and European law and to provide them with information and interesting events, as the Career Day and NGO fair, in order to give them a look at this labour market. Please feel free to contact me at board@urios.org when you have any questions, ideas or when you just want to drink a cup of coffee!

My name is Imke Bunnik and I have the honour to fulfil the position of Model United Nations Commissioner of the 37th board of Urios. I am 21 years old and I recently obtained my Bachelor of Laws. During my exchange semester in Dublin, I discovered that I am particularly interested in international and European law. I decided to focus on those areas of law and upon my return in Utrecht, I got involved with Urios and its fun events and trips. My interest and enthusiasm for Model United Nations was aroused when I participated in Paris International Model United Nations last year. I learned that MUN is a great way to combine my interests in the fields of international law, international relations and debating. Moreover, MUN gives you the chance to meet students from all over the world and to work together with them. Therefore, I am really excited to organise two trips to MUN conferences within Europe this year. Besides organising those trips, I have the pleasure to organise the third edition of Urios’ own MUN conference: URUMUN. If you have any questions concerning MUN or if you would like to participate in the Urios delegation to a MUN conference, feel free to contact me at board@urios.org. I am looking forward to working together with my fellow board members during the upcoming academic year and to meeting all the Urios members!

Hello! My name is Erica and I am proud to be the Symposium Commissioner of the 37th board! I am 19 years old and I am currently in my third year of the Bachelor of Laws. Last year, I also did a minor in history which reinforced my interest in international relations. I got to know Urios by joining them to Brussels last year and it was a great experience. The values Urios stands for – the international vibe, the openness, the balance between fun and serious activities and the passion for International and European law- really appealed to me. Hence, I was happy to get the chance to become a member of the board this year!

As the symposium commissioner, my main task is to organize several interesting lectures and symposia throughout the year, to make sure that your knowledge doesn’t stop where the study books end. I will strive to find a correct balance between subjects that are focussed on International or European law and to also find a diversion between law- and international affairs oriented events. Therefore, there should be something for everyone to like. Furthermore, I will always try to find the best speakers in the subject area who are passionate about sharing their knowledge. If you have any questions, suggestions or ideas, please do not hesitate to contact me at board@urios.org! I am looking forward to seeing you at one of our events!
